Is there any other heat source portable than Fuel tablets and a folding stove? No way, a folding stove and tablets solution are the most portable to provide us with reasonable mean to start a fire. A flat-folding stove can be folded to place it easily even in the front pocket of a survival kit, very light in weight as well. Tablets hardly take any room of your survival bag. Moreover, it is very easy to cook canned food and boil water in woods with the help of the folding stove and fuel tablets. The good thing is that fire created from tablets solution is smokeless, odorless as well as safe to cook food in enclosed place for instance, if you want to cook food inside your tent, you can conveniently do it with the tablets.

You can carry them as heat source along to hiking trip, camping trip, fishing trip, and hunting trip around irrespective of what part of the year it is. However, you need to alter the number of fuel tablets and pack a little more if you have to spend more time into wilderness. 24 to 30 tablets are ideal for a 72 hours trip. A part from the length of outdoor stay number of tablets depends on the eating habit of survivalist enthusiasts.  Do check with the eating habits of your fellow campers when packing for fuel tablets.
Fuel tablets and the flat-fold stove constitute the simplest and portable mean to create a fire, just set up the stove and start cooking. Considering the above benefits on top of very nominal pricing, I must say fuel tablets are the best way to create a fire away especially when you are away from your home.

  1. I've used fuel tablet stoves almost exclusively since 1972 or 73. I currently own approximately 25 of them. They've been used from the swamps of Louisiana to the Mojave Desert to the summit of Long's Peak.

The "standard" flat folding stove (available in two sizes) is probably the worst fuel tablet stove one can choose. My choice is the Esbit Titanium "Tri-Wing" stove. It weighs 11 grams. Yes, I said 11 (eleven). Second choice is one of the models from Flat Cat Gear. With Flat Cat's Epicurean model, you can bake biscuits and muffins and bread on the trail. Yes, you heard me correctly.
